The best 2025 game announcement is Dungeons & Dragons: Warlock, a title that not enough people are talking about. One of two new titles in production under the management of Wizards of the Coast was one of the main game announcements at TGA 2025, though it shared the spotlight with Exodus, which will have a fantasy-based sci-fi setting. Not much has been revealed about the new Warlock game.
For now, it’s known that the title will focus on the titular class in the TTRPG, which is known for making pacts with entities that provide their users with magical powers. It has also been revealed that D&D: Warlock will be an open-world RPG, but it’s still unclear exactly how the player will tackle their adventure, and if it can be compared to other larger open-world titles, like Skyrim, for instance.
D&D Warlock Has A Lot Of Narrative Potential
Warlock Is One Of The Most Interesting D&D Classes

Even though there are concerns about the game’s open-world structure, considering production costs and time, the new title has a lot of narrative potential, as Warlocks tend to be some of the most interesting characters in the TTRPG
These pacts, however, often come at a price. Some pacts are a bit more benevolent. Some Warlocks make pacts with gentle Archfey patrons, while others make pacts with Celestial patrons, which can be good. However, the majority of pacts are related to patrons who don’t always have good intentions and often make requests that go against the character’s moral compass.
These pacts provide interesting role-playing opportunities in Dungeons & Dragons, as Warlocks may struggle between fulfilling their patron’s request and doing a deed they would normally decline. It’s still unclear what narrative direction the game will take, especially with it being an open-world RPG, but the potential in a Warlock-centered game is undeniable, regardless of the type of patron the playable character embraces.
Warlock Could Represent A New Era For D&D Games
The RPG’s Open-World Scope Could Help It Become One Of The Greats

There are several fantastic D&D video games, including the remarkable Baldur’s Gate 3, which was officially released in 2023. Even so, Warlock could represent a new era for D&D-inspired games, especially those under the control of Wizards of the Coast – as a reminder, BG3 was developed by Larian Studios. With an unreasonable number of narrative possibilities, Warlock certainly has the potential to be just as grand as other RPGs.
Wizards of the Coast hasn’t provided a definitive release date for the title, but it’s expected to arrive in late 2027, meaning the company still has a lot of time to work on it. For now, we’ll have to wait to get a better understanding of what the game will be, but I’m already looking forward to Dungeons & Dragons: Warlock, solely for the class being featured.
