9 Biggest Questions After Tracker Season 2, Episode 8 That It Needs To Answer

Spoiler Alert for Tracker season 2, episode 8, "The Night Movers"

Tracker season 2 delivers its fall finale, but episode 8, "The Night Movers," leaves plenty of questions for the series to answer when it returns. Tracker season 2 has been a mixed bag, with some soft-hitting cases and others that advance Justin Hartley's CBS series into new territory. The Tracker season 2 premiere kicked off the season with a new mystery for Colter Shaw, a cold case that the self-proclaimed "rewardist" has been trying to crack for 10 years. The mystery welcomes Camille Picket into the Tracker season 2 cast, Colter's on-again/off-again love interest.

Throughout the second season, Tracker builds on the mystery of Gina Picket's disappearance, and Colter finally enlists much-needed reinforcements in episode 6. While investigating the case of three missing friends, Colter meets Brent Sexton's Keaton, a retired law enforcement officer who also works off-the-books seeking justice for a cold case from his career. They join forces at the end of episode 6, and Keaton follows up with the tracker in the fall finale. Still, the installment left much to be desired concerning who killed Colter's father in Tracker, a mystery the series has barely touched in its sophomore run.

9 Is Gina Still Alive?

Tracker Season 2 Needs To Conclude Gina's Case

The biggest question left in the balance after Tracker season 2, episode 8, is whether Gina Picket is alive. The episode begins with Gina's sister, Floriana Lima's Camille Picket character, telling Colter she wants to move on from her sister's disappearance and that the rewardist should stop looking. Still, the matter is out of Colter's hands. Colter enlisted Keaton to help him with Gina's mystery in episode 6, and the ex-cop has a significant development for Colter in Tracker season 2, episode 8.

At the end of "The Night Movers," Keaton reveals he has tracked down an informant named Alex Silva (Johnny Rey Diaz), who provides Colter with crucial information about Gina's case. Alex describes a ring of crime orchestrated by an unidentified villain called "Teacher" who had young men do his bidding, luring girls like Gina Picket to a place called "the Farm." While Tracker episode 8 leaves Gina's fate open-ended, the rewardist will likely make headway on Gina's case as Colter Shaw's Tracker team investigates the new lead.

8 What’s Going On With Velma & Teddi?

Tracker Needs To Explain Velma And Teddi's Separation

Abby McEnany As Velma Bruin In Tracker Season 2, Episode 1,

Robin Weigert as Teddi Bruin in Tracker.

Velma Bruin in Tracker season 2

Tracker season 2 left more to be desired when answering what's going on between Velma (Abby McEnany) and her better half, and the second portion of the season can make up for it. The couple would likely be be separating after Robin Weigert's Teddi Bruin left Tracker after season 1, leaving the series with a difficult choice regarding the character's exit. In the Tracker season 2 premiere, Velma explains that she is giving Teddi space, but that's the only explanation she has offered.

Thus, Tracker season 2 handles Teddi's exit with minimal detail, continuing to underutilize one of its main characters. Velma has a vast story to tell in the show's sophomore run as she navigates life without her partner. Still, the show continues to confine Velma with minimal dialogue, using her solely to set up each episode's case. Tracker must properly flush out what happened between Velma and Teddi and how the handlers deal with their separation, bringing more depth to a central romance before season 2 ends.

7 When Is Russell Shaw Coming Back?

Jensen Ackles Will Be Back In Tracker Season 2

A close up of Jensen Ackles as Russell Shaw looking confused in Tracker

Russell and Colter in Tracker season 1, episode 12, standing together

Jensen Ackles will return as Russell Shaw in Tracker season 2, and it's just a matter of when. Colter's brother debuted in the penultimate episode of Tracker season 1, clearing his name of his father's murder and establishing a rapport with his younger brother Colter. Tracker season 2 returned Ackles' Russell Shaw in episode 2, "Ontological Shock," and showrunners have confirmed that Ackles will make multiple appearances in Tracker season 2.

Therefore, viewers can anticipate another team-up between Colter and Russell when Tracker returns in 2025. Hopefully, the brothers will make headway on their father's mysterious death, following up a development in "Ontological Shock." In the outing, when infiltrating a top-secret Department of Defense (DOD) site, Russell confirms that their father, Ashton Shaw (Lee Tergesen), is connected to the organization, discovering his father's controversial reputation.

6 What Is Dory Hiding From Colter?

Melissa Roxburgh Plays Colter's Little Sister

Tracker season 2 has teased the return of Colter's sister Dory (Melissa Roxburgh), and what his little sister is hiding remains to be said. In the Tracker season 1 finale, Colter learns that Dory has a box of Ashton Shaw's files, given to her by their family friend Lizzy Hawking (Jennifer Morrison). Colter is surprised when he learns about the box because, at the time, he has recently seen his sister. Dory fails to mention the file box when she sees Colter, even when her brother presses her on their father.

Tracker season 2 leaves audiences wondering why Dory hid the file box from Colter and what secrets she keeps. The development that Colter's sister withheld information made a massive wave in the Tracker story, so, weirdly, he hasn't followed up with his sister yet. Tracker season 2 can still reveal Dory's place in the Shaw family mystery, with mentions of the character in episodes 5 and 8 setting up her return as Colter reflects on moments with his sister.

5 What’s In Ashton Shaw’s File Box?

Dory Has Her Father's Old Paperwork

Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw and Jennifer Morrison as Lizzy speaking at a cafe in Tracker

When Tracker returns in season 2, they must reveal what was in Ashton Shaw's file box. Lizzy Hawking told Colter about the box in the Tracker season 1 finale, and the rewardist still hasn't followed up on the lead eight episodes into the show's second season. Instead of keeping the file box locked down for another season, Tracker's sophomore run should answer what's inside to keep audiences engaged in Ashton Shaw's mysterious life and the circumstances that preceded his death.

Some of Colter Shaw's best moments in Tracker season 1 are when he's making headway in his family's mystery, like when he works with his brother Russell in the penultimate episode. Therefore, Tracker should answer what's in Ashton Shaw's file box to develop the story of the Shaw patriarch's mysterious connections to the University of California Berkeley and the United States government. Adding to Ashton's story beyond his death would enhance the mystery without having to solve it as early as season 2.

4 Will Keaton Return In Tracker Season 2, Part 2?

The Ex-Cop Can Return To Solve Gina's Mystery

Amanda Wong (Lauren Wright) & Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) In Tracker Season 2, Episode 6,

Brent Sexton As Keaton In Tracker Season 2, Episode 6,

Now that Keaton is involved in Colter Shaw's cold case, the former law enforcement officer will likely return to see the job through. Colter helps Keaton solve his cold case in episode 6, leaving the ex-cop in Colter's debt, and he delivers a massive development in the fall finale. Still, Gina's case is far from solved, and it's unclear if Keaton will stick around to the end. It would make sense for Keaton to stay with it since Colter helps him see his case through.

If the series does return Tracker season 2's new fan-favorite character, the show can continue to compare and contrast the trackers. Colter and Keaton share a sense of duty that extends what's expected of them, as they both chase cold cases longer after others have given up hope of finding answers. However, episode 8 reveals that Keaton's methods of coercion are more brutal than the soft-spoken rewardist, and continuing to work together could eventually put the allies at odds.

3 Who Abducted Gina Picket?

Alex Points To A Man Called Teacher

Justin-Hartley-in-Tracker

Justin Hartley as Colter and Jensen Ackles as Russell in Russell's car in Tracker season 2 episode 2

Whether Gina Picket is alive remains to be seen. First, Colter will do his due diligence and track down Gina's abductor. Keaton and Colter's informant, Alex, confirms that Frank Whales (Ryan Dorsey), the last person seen with Gina the night she disappeared, is involved in her sudden vanishing. Still, Alex points to a more extensive criminal operation run by someone called "Teacher," who blackmailed young men like Silva and Whales to do his bidding.

When Tracker season 2 returns, Colter must find out if Gina is alive, and he will sniff out her abductor first. Silva describes a location called "the Farm" where Teacher lured his victims, and Colter will try to locate the place so that he can advance his case and finally get answers about Gina. Colter will probably enlist Bobby and potentially Reenie (Fiona Rene) to dig into Teacher and the Farm, putting a face to the villain's alias and resolving who abducted Gina.

2 When Will Lizzie Hawking Return?

Jennifer Morrison Plays Colter's Family Friend

Jennifer Morrison as Lizzy Hawking sitting at the beach in Tracker

Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw and Jennifer Morrison as Lizzy having a difficult conversation in Tracker

Jennifer Morrison as Lizzy Hawking looking concerned in Tracker

Hartley said Lizzy Hawking is definitely coming back in Tracker season 2, and her absence in part 1 of the second installment means the character will return after the break. Hartley's co-star from NBC's drama series This Is Us plays Colter's family friend, who delivers vital information about his father in the season 1 finale. Lizzy reveals that her mother was having an affair with Colter's father, and it's the first time the rewardist hears about it.

We anticipate Lizzy Hawking's Tracker return because the character uniquely connects to Colter's family, giving her a personal history with Ashton Shaw. Lizzy will probably offer more information when she returns in season 2, and her return could add some much-needed traction to the mystery. Colter's Gina Picket case has distracted from what happened to Ashton, and the series needs to return characters like Lizzy to keep the series' most crucial mystery alive.

1 Who Killed Colter’s Father In Tracker?

Tracker Season 1's Mystery Is Unsolved

Ashton Shaw from Tracker looks upward and smiles

After eight episodes of Tracker season 2, Colter is no closer to solving his father's mysterious death than in season 1. Thus, the biggest question that Tracker season 2 needs to answer concerns Colter's father's killer. The rewardist initially believes that his brother, Russell, is responsible for their father's death. Still, Russell clears his name before season 1 wraps up, leaving the mystery wide open in the show's sophomore run.

While it makes sense for the series to draw out the central mystery inspired by Jeffery Deaver's Colter Shaw series, which has limited source material, it must advance the case. Colter is a skilled tracker, so stalling when he could advance the case closest to him doesn't make sense. The first part of Tracker season 2 didn't properly embellish the series with the mystery the way it did in season 1, and that needs to change, regardless of whether Colter solves his father's murder.
