A Missing Titan The Monsterverse Teased 6 Years Ago May Finally Be Making An Appearance

A creature confirmed to exist in Godzilla: King of the Monsters now has a better chance than ever at finally making a live-action appearance in the Monsterverse. A new small-screen addition to Godzilla and Kong's shared cinematic universe is on its way, and it may feature one of the many Titans that King of the Monsters quietly introduced into the lore all the way back in 2019.

So far, Legendary's Monsterverse has two TV shows that fit into its canon, Netflix's animated, one-season Skull Island series and Apple TV+'s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which is about to get a second season in February. What's more, it'll be getting a spinoff that will star the younger version of one of its main characters, Lee Shaw, played by Wyatt Russell.

After featuring flashbacks of Lee Shaw's activities as a Monarch operative in the 1950s and early 1960s, the untitled spinoff series will take Wyatt Russell's character to the 1980s. Evidently, he'll be investigating Soviet efforts to weaponize "a horrific new Titan" discovered in Russia.

Amhuluk Was Being Monitored At A Monarch Outpost In Russia

In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the Monsterverse notably used monitor screens to reveal the names and locations of multiple Titans, including 11 that didn't appear in the film. Among the 11 missing Monsterverse Titans was Amhuluk, who was being contained at Outpost 66 in Manpupuner Rock Formations in Russia prior to the moment where Ghidorah brought them all out of hibernation with his roar.

As for who and exactly what Amhuluk is, this was later clarified in the Godzilla vs. Kong tie-in comic, Godzilla: Dominion. It was revealed in the comic that Amhuluk is a swamp-dwelling, aggressive Titan with plant-like properties and abilities, including being able to extend out appendages that look like trees and vines.

In the aftermath of King of the Monsters, Amhuluk made his way to the Amazon Rainforest, where he clashed with Behemoth. Godzilla intervened and quickly overpowered Amhuluk, who yielded to the alpha Titan and fled the area.

The Monsterverse's New Show Could Show How Amhuluk Was Discovered

It wouldn't be a massive shock if the spinoff's "horrific new Titan" is Amhuluk, especially since the Monsterverse has demonstrated a willingness to flesh out details regarding King of the Monsters' missing Titans and build off lore established in the tie-in material. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is an excellent example of this, given that it featured another missing Titan that Dominion included – Tiamat.

With that in mind, it's certainly feasible that the Monsterverse could take the Amhuluk design that Dominion contributed to the Monsterverse and use to introduce a powerful threat for Monarch to investigate in the 1980s.

It's not known when exactly Amhuluk was discovered, only that Monarch had a base constructed in Russia sometime before 2019. As for whether Russia's government would have cooperated with Monarch to allow an outpost there, that's not clear, and is quite possibly one of the questions the spinoff series may try to answer.

Based on the synopsis for the show, the Soviet Union had its own designs on the Titan. It could be that the events that will play out in the show will see the Soviets realize that they have no expertise in containing Titans and therefore need Monarch to manage that role, which could provide a working explanation for Outpost 66's existence years ahead of Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
