The new Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special accidentally used an image of Emma Roberts and said it was Emma Watson. The highly successful Harry Potter film series turned twenty years old last year and Warner Bros. celebrated that by releasing a reunion special on HBO Max. This comes after the success of the Friends reunion special last May and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion in 2020. Lasting nearly one hour and forty-five minutes, the special contained behind-the-scenes footage and new interviews from the many actors and filmmakers that made the series possible.
Watson was cast as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series as a pre-teen and was instantly forced into the spotlight. The series' popularity only grew as time went on, along with her fame. A preview for the series revealed that Watson was considering quitting Harry Potter before the series wrapped up. In the 10 years since the franchise wrapped with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Watson has found success in other acting roles, the most notable one being Belle in the 2017 live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast
As fans dive into the Harry Potter reunion special, Twitter user mania noticed a mistake in one of the old pictures the documentary uses. Watson was discussing her childhood and how she became obsessed with the Harry Potter series at a young age. Over Watson's narration is a photo of a young girl wearing Mickey Mouse ears, which is actually Emma Roberts, not Emma Watson.
Roberts first found success starring in Unfabulous on the Nickelodeon network in 2004. Since then, she has been featured in various projects such as American Horror Story and We're the Millers. She credits her decision to act to Julia Roberts, a well-known actress who happens to be her aunt. Roberts and Watson have both found success in Hollywood, but it is a bit of a surprise that such a big mistake would be made on behalf of Warner Bros.
With so many people working on the special, it's a mystery how a mistake like this wasn't caught. There has yet to be any comment from Warner Bros. or HBO Max, but with this mistake starting to make headlines, it's possible the error will be edited out of the special in the next few days. Even though the image was shown briefly in the special and some may not have caught the mistake, it's no surprise that die-hard Harry Potter fans were quick to spot the error.
