Since the premiere of Little Women in 2019, little has been seen of the life and work of Emma Watson. The former Harry Potter star has always kept a low profile, especially since the end of the wizarding saga, but she kept working on various projects after playing Hermione Granger from 2001 to 2011.
However, the actress has not been part of a series or movie for several years, unlike her co-stars Daniel Radcliffe or Rupert Grint, who have been quite busy lately. But there is a very good reason for his distance from the cameras.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Watson revealed the reason she hasn't taken any roles in recent years:
“I wasn’t very happy, if I’m being honest. I think I felt a bit caged. The thing I found really hard was that I had to go out and sell something that I really didn’t have very much control over. To stand in front of a film and have every journalist be able to say, ‘How does this align with your viewpoint?’. It was very difficult to have to be the face and the spokesperson for things where I didn’t get to be involved in the process. I was held accountable in a way that I began to find really frustrating, because I didn’t have a voice, I didn’t have a say.”
Fortunately for her fans, the actress also confirmed that she wants to resume her career:
“Yes, absolutely. But I’m happy to sit and wait for the next right thing. I love what I do. It’s finding a way to do it where I don’t have to fracture myself into different faces and people. And I just don’t want to switch into robot mode any more. Does that make sense?”.
Watson's first acting job was none other than Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the Chris Colombus’ adaptation of the first novel in J.K. Rowling’s successful franchise. Since then, she played Harry Potter’s best friend in the eight movies, and another 11 movie roles, including Margaret March in Greta Werwig’s film and Samantha Button in Perks of Being a Wallflower
Is Emma Watson Returning To The Harry Potter Franchise?

Just a few weeks ago, Warner Bros. Discovery made the big announcement that the Harry Potter saga will be adapted as a series, which will air exclusively on Max, the company's new streaming service leaving the “HBO” behind.
However, it is not the only project related to the magical saga that could arrive in the future. David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, revealed on several occasions that they want to exploit their big franchises and that includes the boy wizard. In fact, before the announcement of the series, he confessed that he would like to adapt The Cursed Child to the screen.
The eighth book, which tells the adventures of Harry Potter's son Albus and Draco Malfoy's Scorpius, would be the perfect project for Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Tom Felton to return to the franchise, this time as adults.
And while it seems like most of the actors aren't interested in playing those characters again, there's still a chance it could happen in the future. For now, fans will be able to meet new versions of Harry, Ron, Hermione and Draco in the already announced series, which currently has no release date.
