Jennifer Lopez is set to star in a movie musical adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman. Originally a 1976 Manuel Puig novel, Kiss of the Spider Woman was first adapted to the screen as a movie in 1985 starring William Hurt, Raul Julia, and Sonia Braga. The work was later adapted into a Broadway musical, which first premiered in 1993.

Three decades after the premiere of the musical, a movie version of Kiss of the Spider Woman is in development. As per Variety, this movie is set to star Lopez in the role of Aurora. The musical adaptation will be directed by Bill Condon and produced by Lopez, Barry Josephson, Tom Kirdahy, Greg Yolen, Matt Geller, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina. There are no other cast members confirmed at this time.

Why Kiss Of The Spider Woman Has The Dream Team Pairing

While she is best known for her music career, Lopez made her film debut in 1986 with a small role in the film My Little Girl. Since then, her acting career has received inconsistent reviews. While there are some exceptions, such as her titular role in Selena and acclaimed performance in Hustlers, Lopez has acted in some heavily disliked films, including 2003’s Gigli, which is widely considered to be one of the worst movies ever made.

Condon, however, has a much better track record when it comes to his film career. He has made a name for himself in movie musicals, co-writing the screenplays for films such as Chicago and The Greatest Showman. Condon also directed the critically-acclaimed 2006 film Dreamgirls, which saw the on-screen debut of singer Jennifer Hudson and featured Beyoncé, who was also best known for her music career at the time.

With Dreamgirls, Condon has shown that he has a great track record in directing famous singers as actors. While Lopez’s movie history may not be quite as consistent, her outstanding performances in films such as Hustlers show that the actor is malleable and will flourish with the right director. If the past is any indication, Condon is that perfect director for a star like Lopez, making the two of them the dream pairing for Kiss of the Spider Woman.
