Although Jurassic World Rebirth’s reboot of the franchise was controversial, the movie is well worth watching now that the dust has settled on the series. The Jurassic World franchise has a long and complex history. Starting strong with 1993’s Jurassic Park, the series had a hard time following up director Stephen Spielberg’s iconic adaptation of Michael Crichton’s bestselling novel.
Spielberg returned to direct 1997’s passable The Lost World: Jurassic Park, but the magic was gone. 2001’s Jurassic Park III was an underrated effort that still couldn’t recapture the magic of the original, and the franchise then stayed dormant until 2015’s reboot, Jurassic World. Director Colin Trevorrow’s reboot was a fun reintroduction to the franchise.
Jurassic World Rebirth Relaunched The Franchise After Dominion

However, its sequels, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion, were too densely plotted, overstuffed, and tiresome to impress viewers. Although Jurassic World: Dominion fared well at the box office, it earned the worst critical reception of the series so far. Then, only three years later, Godzilla director Gareth Edwards rebooted the series again with Jurassic World Rebirth.
The appropriately titled reboot saw Scarlett Johansson’s Zora venture into a disused research facility teeming with the world’s last living dinosaurs, only to encounter a stranded family of holidaymakers therein. Co-starring Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey, Jurassic World Rebirth was a modest critical return to form for the franchise, earning 70% from audiences and 50% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Why Jurassic World Rebirth Grossed Less Than The Previous Trilogy

Jurassic World Rebirth earned a whopping $869 million at the box office, a sum that, for almost any other movie, would be undeniably impressive. However, the Jurassic World franchise set the bar exceedingly high for box office success, as the series is one of the most financially successful franchises of all time.
In contrast, Jurassic World Dominion earned $1.004 billion while its predecessor, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, earned $1.310 billion. The fact that 2015’s Jurassic World earned $1.671 billion proves that the franchise’s box office is steadily declining, and the improved reviews of Jurassic World Rebirth weren’t enough to win back some skeptical audience members.
What Is The Next Jurassic World Movie?

That said, $869 million is still $869 million, and, with a budget of only $200 million, Jurassic World Rebirth turned a tidy profit despite failing to beat its predecessors. As such, another Jurassic World movie can reasonably be expected in the near future.
Preliminary reports from November 2025 suggest that a Jurassic World Rebirth sequel may be in the works in the near future, although these have not yet been confirmed. It isn’t clear whether the cast will reprise their roles or if Jurassic World Rebirth’s sequel will instead introduce a new set of heroes to the series.
