Scarlett Johansson’s Hit $869M Sci-Fi Thriller Officially Releases On Netflix This Week After Breaking 29-Year Franchise Tradition

Netflix is wrapping up its slate of new additions in February 2026 with Scarlett Johansson's hit sci-fi movie that devoured the box office this past summer.

After earning over $869 million worldwide following its July 2025 theatrical launch, the Scarlett Johansson-led Jurassic World Rebirth begins streaming on Netflix starting February 28 in the United States. The hit sci-fi franchise film's move to Netflix marks its second streaming home after debuting on Peacock in October.

Rebirth is joining Netflix's movie catalog alongside the preceding Chris Pratt-starring Jurassic Park reboot movies, Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Jurassic World Dominion (2022). After Jurassic World Rebirth arrives on February 28, Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom will begin streaming on Netflix on March 1, followed by Dominion on March 2.

While they all fall within the Jurassic World family, Rebirth was envisioned as a standalone sequel to Dominion. In fact, Jurassic World Rebirth became the first movie in the Jurassic Park franchise to not bring back any characters from previous installments. In addition to Johansson, the cast of Jurassic World Rebirth includes Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, David Iacono, Luna Blaise, Audrina Miranda, and more.

Set five years after Dominion, Jurassic World Rebirth follows Zora Bennett (Johansson), a covert operation expert, who is recruited by a pharmaceutical company executive to work with paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Bailey) and collect samples from three species of dinosaurs. After the team they've assembled travels to collect the biomaterial, the group rescues the stranded Delgado family, with all fighting to stay alive amid encounters with various dinosaurs.

Directed by Godzilla's Gareth Edwards and penned by veteran Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, Jurassic World Rebirth became one of the highest-grossing movies of 2025 and the fifth-highest-grossing movie in the franchise. The film ultimately earned over $869 million worldwide at the box office against a reported $180 million budget.

Currently, no official plans from Universal have been announced regarding a sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth, despite the film's theatrical success and subsequent streaming triumph on NBCUniversal's own Peacock. However, with Jurassic World Rebirth's popularity set to hit a resurgence upon hitting Netflix later this week, demand for and discussions about a potential sequel may also be revived.

As Johansson prepares for Netflix to breathe new life into Jurassic World Rebirth, the actor is also preparing to step into another classic horror universe. Scarlett Johansson has been cast to lead Mike Flanagan's upcoming The Exorcist movie, which will put the hit horror filmmaker's unique spin on the iconic franchise that launched in 1973.
