They first met in 2006 on the set of Saturday Night Live, but they went their separate ways following that initial encounter: Johansson went on to marry Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds (2008-2011) and later French journalist Romain Dauriac (2014-2017), while Jost was linked to Parks and Recreation actress Rashida Jones. It wasn't until 2017, when Johansson returned to SNL as a special guest, that things turned romantic for the two.

Since then, the celebrity pair have tried to keep things lowkey, exchanging their vows in a private ceremony in 2020. January 2006: They meet.

Johansson and Jost's story goes way back before they started dating. The comedian told Entertainment Tonight in September 2017 that they first met at SNL in 2006.

"The first time she hosted was the first year I was a writer on the show," Jost said. "So, we've kind of known each other since then…she's the best."

May 20, 2017: Relationship rumors start to swirl.

A month after Johansson filed for divorce from French journalist Romain Dauriac (with whom she shares a daughter, Rose Dorothy), she made a special guest appearance on the season finale of SNL. She and Jost were seen sharing a warm hug on stage after the show and kissing at the after-party, per Page Six.

September 17, 2017: Colin Jost gives Scarlett Johansson a shout out.

Jost added fuel to the fire when he told Entertainment Tonight at the 2017 Emmys, "She's pretty cool…it's hard to have a lot of complaints, she's pretty awesome. I'm very happy. I feel very lucky."

November 30, 2017: They make their public debut.

Johansson and Jost finally put their relationship front and center when they stepped out for the American Museum of Natural History Gala in New York City. They walked the red carpet separately but reunited for pictures inside the event.

December 16, 2017: They hard launch their relationship on SNL.

It only made sense to properly announce their relationship where it all started: SNL. Johansson made a surprise guest appearance on the sketch-comedy program and engaged in some sweet PDA with Jost during the goodbye portion. In one video, Jost could be seen wrapping his arm around Johansson's shoulder. May 7, 2018: They make their Met Gala debut.

Johansson made a splash at the 2018 Met Gala, which centered around the theme "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination," by not only stunning in an ombre Marchesa gown, but showing up with Jost on her arm.

May 2019: They get engaged.

After just two years of dating, the couple were headed for marriage. Johansson's publicist Marcel Pariseau confirmed to the Associated Press that the question had been popped. In December of that year, Johansson hosted SNL for the sixth time and gave Jost an adorable shoutout: "This place means so much to me," she said. "I have so many friends here and I met the love of my life here."

October 2020: They tie the knot.

The wedding bells rang for the couple during a small, Covid-safe ceremony. Meals on Wheels America broke the news with an Instagram post on October 29, 2020.

August 2021: They welcome their first child.

Despite Jost briefly alluding to the news that they were expecting during an SNL skit, the couple kept things largely under wraps. The comedian confirmed the birth on Instagram with a post that read, "Ok ok we had a baby / His name is Cosmo / We love him very much." He noted in a second slide, "Privacy would be greatly appreciated."

A year later, Johansson joked on The Kelly Clarkson Show that they "just threw a bunch of letters together" to come up with the name. "It just seemed like a refreshing—it's so charming. Our friends all liked it," she added.

November 18, 2021: Scarlett Johansson opens up about being a mother.

After a two-year hiatus from the red carpet, the couple made their return at the 35th Annual American Cinematheque Awards, where Johansson was honored with the American Cinematheque Award. While on the carpet, she chatted with Entertainment Tonight about motherhood.

"I feel very fortunate that I've been able to take this time to really enjoy the early stages of my motherhood with our son," she said. "It's been wonderful. I'm in a 'baby bliss bubble.'"

February 6, 2022: They star in a Super Bowl commercial.

The couple took to the screen together again, this time for an Alexa commercial leading up to football's biggest night. In the ad, they discover their Alexa can read their minds, and the device begins to spill their embarrassing secrets.

March 1, 2022: Scarlett Johansson reveals Colin Jost tested her skincare products.

In an interview with InStyle, Johansson revealed Jost is a big fan of the eye cream from her skincare brand, The Outset. "He's the first partner I've ever had that uses an eye cream," she said, joking that it's why he looks so good on Saturday nights.

Jost was an ever-supportive husband even when their tests didn't go so well. At one point, Johansson explained, she thought about adding a face mask and was testing a formula. "I forgot to tell Colin it was self-warming, and he thought he was having a really crazy allergic reaction to it," she shared while laughing. "He was like, 'It's spread and it's melting off my face!' He was completely freaking out."

Jost returned to the testing chair a year later when the couple made a YouTube video in which the Black Widow star gives her husband a spa-like facial as they answer holiday-themed questions.

April 18, 2023: Scarlett Johansson shares why her marriage to Colin Jost works.

Johansson offered some noteworthy insight into what makes her coupling with the comedian work on the Goop podcast, telling host Gwyneth Paltrow that part of their secret sauce is that they "move around the world in the same way."

She added, "I never realized, 'Oh, it's really important for me, I need to be with a compassionate person. That's a fundamental characteristic that has to be there.' It worked with Colin and I because I was finally able to step back and respect myself enough to know what those [fundamental wants and needs] were."
