With the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer now out, it is easy to see what the Marvel Cinematic Universe appears to be doing to promote the highly anticipated film. After a long time, Marvel fans finally get a massive update and the first official footage from 2026's biggest MCU movie. Avengers: Doomsday brings back a massive hero who changes everything.
That return confirms something we knew, which is that the revealed cast of Avengers: Doomsday does not include all the actors who will appear in the movie. That aside, the approach Marvel has taken with the first trailer for the upcoming Avengers movie also teases what we should expect from the remaining three trailers, and it sounds very exciting.
The First Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Focuses On A Returning Hero

Instead of a full-on Avengers: Doomsday teaser like was expected, the first footage from the next Avengers movie focuses on a returning MCU hero: Chris Evans' Captain America. The trailer starts with someone riding on a motorcycle through a rural area. We then see Peggy Carter's house from Avengers: Endgame
He walks up the stairs as his reflection appears on the glass door — it's Steve Rogers. Captain America takes his Avengers: Endgame suit, looks at it, and puts it away in a box. The camera then pans around Steve to reveal that he has a baby, then rises to show Chris Evans' face. He smiles.
"Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday" appears, followed by a countdown to the movie's release date. No other Avengers characters, not even Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter, who was reported to appear in Avengers: Doomsday near Evans' MCU return reports, appear in the brief teaser. That should mean one thing.
Steve Rogers' MCU Return Should Explain Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday 4-Trailer Strategy

After watching Steve Rogers' MCU return in the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer, I believe that Marvel's trailer strategy has become clear. It always seemed too early for a full trailer, given that the next Avengers movie only arrives in theaters a year from now, on December 18, 2026. As such, there might not actually be a traditional trailer at all with Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Steve Rogers' teaser likely means that Marvel Studios will use the reported four Avengers: Doomsday trailers to tease major players for the MCU movie. Some of the characters who could benefit from that include Thor, Loki, Doctor Doom, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and more. Marvel could also only focus on surprise returns, similar to Evans'.
Players like Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, and other unconfirmed multiverse characters could fit with Steve Rogers' surprise return. That said, we could also get three character spotlights before a full Avengers: Doomsday teaser as the fourth trailer. After Captain America's return, the next Avengers: Doomsday trailer will be watched closely.
