The first Avengers: Doomsday trailer is out, revealing how the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie already breaks a major franchise trend. The cast of the next Avengers movie was revealed last March. However, despite multiple reports, Chris Evans' Steve Rogers was not among the names officially announced by Marvel. Now, that has changed, with Captain America confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, thanks to the trailer.
As Steve Rogers made his MCU return in the new footage, we discovered more details about Avengers: Doomsday's story. Not only is the MCU's first Captain America back, but Evans' Steve Rogers and Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter had a child. Besides the exciting nature of what was revealed in the footage, the trailer's focus led to the MCU breaking a long-running trend.
The First Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Breaks An MCU Trend

The first Avengers: Doomsday trailer is completely focused on Chris Evans' return as Captain America. It shows more of Steve Rogers' life after he went back to the past to live with Peggy, revealing his son and how Steve seemingly left his superhero life behind, which is symbolized by the character putting away his Avengers: Endgame
That is a first for Marvel Studios' Avengers movies. All four Avengers films released prior to Doomsday had their trailers focus on the wider narrative and the whole team. While TV spots have focused on specific heroes, the trailers themselves, especially the first teasers for the MCU's Avengers movies, had always been team-centric, until now, with Steve Rogers in Doomsday.
Will The Other 3 Avengers: Doomsday Trailers Follow Its Lead?

The first Avengers: Doomsday trailer broke the MCU trend that had been going on since 2012's The Avengers and its first trailer on October 11, 2011. So far, there is no official confirmation that Avengers: Doomsday's other trailers — three more teasers will be released weekly with Avatar: Fire and Ash in theaters — will follow what the first did, with each focusing on a single character.
That said, it is what makes the most sense at this point. After all, it always seemed weird that Marvel would release the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday a full year before the MCU movie's release on December 18, 2026, especially since Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which swings into theaters on July 31, 2026, still has to release its first trailer.
By releasing four character-centric trailers — players like Thor, Doctor Doom, Loki, Doctor Strange, Wolverine, and more could fit the bill — the MCU could tease the film without delving into its main story so soon. After Chris Evans' MCU return was confirmed, it seems like the remaining three Avengers: Doomsday trailers will also break the franchise trend, focusing on single characters, which is perfect.
