Ever since Luna first was unmasked as the person responsible for the deaths of both Hollis and Tom, Bold & Beautiful characters have made a point of saying that the twist came out of nowhere. Just as in real life, people on the news always seem to say the serial killer next door “seemed like such a nice guy,” the various people who crossed paths with Luna have expressed similar sentiments.
But based on recent revelations, we’re beginning to think that there’s much more going on than meets the eye. Because when Poppy paid her jailed daughter a visit, the younger woman seemed genuinely contrite. And while apologizing for her actions and the pain she brought into everyone’s lives, Luna said something which immediately caught our attention: She declared that it was as if someone had flipped a switch within her.
Interestingly enough, we saw that happen before our very eyes when later, while alone in her cell, Luna’s face went from calm and serene to devilish, a wicked smile growing as she thought of Bill. As he read the letter she’d sent, we wondered if perhaps the pensive young woman we’d seen talking to Poppy and the frightening one we saw in the prison cell were two sides of the same coin.
In other words, might Luna be suffering from multiple personalities? It would certainly go a long way toward explaining the seeming discrepancies in her storyline. For example, why did she seem shocked upon finding the bookbag she’d planted, given that there was no one in the room to see her reaction? And if sleeping with Zende was her intention, why did she repeatedly show remorse and guilt while alone? While we’ve joined viewers in accusing the writers of rewriting Luna’s admittedly brief history, we’re now wondering if this was the plan all along.
In most cases, multiple personalities are triggered by extremely traumatic events which took place during childhood. Sadly, those traumas most often arise from sexual abuse. Given that we know Poppy was having relations with both Tom and Bill at around the same time, it’s not far fetched to assume that in the years after Luna was born, there were other men in the picture. Perhaps, unknown to the erstwhile Penelope, one of those men took advantage of her young daughter, thus planting a seed which would one day grow into a second personality.
Should this prove true, Luna might well be able to seek treatment and be released from prison. What might this mean for Bill, RJ, Zende, Poppy, Steffy, Finn and everyone else whose lives were forever changed by her killing spree?
