Carlos Alcaraz enjoys the ‘perfect Sunday’ as he dances to Dua Lipa on the heels of retaining his Wimbledon title – and watching Spain beat England to win Euro 2024!

It was some Sunday for Carlos Alcaraz. Not only did he retain his Wimbledon title in straight sets, thrashing Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6, but his compatriots won out on the football pitch in Berlin as Luis de la Fuente's Spain beat England 2-1 in the Euros final.

Victory at Wimbledon made him the youngest-ever male tennis player to win four Grand Slam titles.

But perhaps the cherry on top was a dance with Wimbledon ladies' champion Barbora Krejčíková at the Champions' Dinner to Dua Lipa's 2023 hit 'Dance the Night'.

Krejčíková, who defeated Italian Jasmie Paoloni 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, joined Alcaraz on stage to maintain the Wimbledon tradition at the Champions' Dinner that the male and female winners share a dance.

The 21-year-old Spaniard spun the 28-year-old Czech player for a few twirls to the delight of attendees before video of the dance went viral online.

When reminded by former tennis player and BBC presenter Annabel Croft of the tradition after beating Djokovic on Centre Court at SW19, Alcaraz had seemed less than enthusiastic.

Croft asked Alcaraz about his skills on the dancefloor to which he replied gingerly: 'Let's say, could be better I guess. Yeah, let's see tonight, but I try to do my best.'

But Alcaraz and Krejčíková were good sports and entertained diners at The Lawn in The Wimbledon Club later that evening.

Before the dinner and dance though, the men's champion had his mind elsewhere as he watched nervously to see if Spain would secure the European Championship title over England in Berlin.

Alcaraz revealed on Sunday that before his final against Djokovic he had spoken with members of the Spanish football team to encourage them.

'I spoke to them before I started the match. When I finished [my match], one of the first FaceTimes I did was with Alvaro Morata just to wish them the best of luck,' he said.

After his semi-final victory over Daniil Medvedev on Thursday, the 21-year-old had said that he hoped for a 'perfect Sunday' if he could claim the trophy on Centre Court and the team could win in Berlin.

As soon as he had secured victory and gone through the trophy ceremony and obligatory interviews, Alcaraz's focus turned squarely to the European final as the football fanatic made sure to watch by any means necessary.

'It started on the phone,' he said, 'then it switched to the TV at home and then coming here [to the dinner] on the iPad so it was kind of mixed.'

Alcaraz arrived back in Wimbledon for the black tie dinner with the game on a knife edge after Cole Palmer's equaliser.

He then refused to leave his car until he was sure that Mikel Oyarzabal's 86th-minute goal, which some had thought might be offside, had been awarded after it was ruled to have been onside.

'Just before getting out of the car, I saw the goal so I thought it was offside.

'I couldn't get out of the car until I made sure it was a goal. So it was a few minutes where the nerves were so high!'
