“Courteney Cox’s Heartfelt Birthday Tribute to Jennifer Aniston Includes a Moving Nod to Matthew Perry”

To honor Jennifer Aniston on her 55th birthday, best friend Courteney Cox made a sweet Instagram post to celebrate her friend and shared a touching tribute to their late Friends co-star, Matthew Perry.

“Not sure why this is one of my favorite clips… I guess it’s because nobody else in the world could make this line sound so cute,” Cox captioned the post. “Happy Birthday, my sweet Jenny Louise. Also, don’t know why I call her that…but I sure do love you.”
The carousel-style post, shared on Sunday, Feb. 11, featured two pictures of Cox and Aniston throughout the years, of them posing in gowns together, and a more recent photo of the actresses blowing a kiss at the camera. The final slide in the carousel was a clip that hailed from Friends (“The One Where Heckles Dies”), with Aniston’s Rachel Green telling Perry’s Chandler, “Hey Chandler, Monica just broke my seashell lamp.”

Aniston made her own post to ring in 55, posting a reflective video of herself that contained several photos of herself throughout her youth, teen years, and beyond. In the video, a 28-year-old Aniston reflects on how she still feels like her past ages live within her. “What they don’t tell you about getting older is that you’re also all the years that came before that year. I just turned 28, but I’m also still 27, and 26 and 23 and 19 and 11 and seven and one,” she says in the video.

Perry died at 54 last year on October 28 after being found unresponsive. Toxicology results later revealed that Perry died of “acute effects of ketamine,” with “drowning” and “coronary artery disease” listed as contributing factors. The actor was also dealing with negative effects from “buprenorphine,” which CBS explained as a medication used to help treat opioid use disorder.

“Oh boy, this one has cut deep… Having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions that I’ve never experienced before,” Aniston wrote in her own Instagram post. “We all experience loss at some point in our lives. Loss of life or loss of love. Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep. And we loved him deeply,” Aniston wrote in her tribute post to him on November 15. “He was such a part of our DNA … We were always the 6 of us.”
