Los Angeles area wildfires have forced many television shows, including Fallout and Grey's Anatomy to halt production. Officials warn that more filming permits may be revoked going forward.
FilmLA, who issues permits for shoots in Los Angeles, released a statement about the fires. "With deepest appreciation for the efforts of local firefighters, police and paramedics at this difficult time, we advise the production community that personnel resources ordinarily available to support film production may not be available during the local State of Emergency." As a result, many shows, including Amazon's second season of Fallout, are now stopping their filming schedules. Fallout is tentatively rescheduled for Friday.
As per Variety, NBCUniversal has suspended production for Hacks, Loot, Ted, Suits: LA and Happy's Place. CBS Studios has stopped filming NCIS, NCIS: Origins, Poppa's House, The Neighborhood and Taylor Tomlinson's After Midnight for the rest of the week. Disney-20th shut down Doctor Odyssey, Grey's Anatomy and Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Warner Bros.' studio in Burbank has also been closed due to its proximity to the ongoing fires, which has hit production on Abbott Elementary, All-American, The Pitt and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. Premieres and events in the LA area have also been postponed and canceled, including the premiere events for Unstoppable and Blumhouse's Wolf Man. Thousands of acres of land have been burned as a result of the fires, which have destroyed countless homes in the Southern California area, killed at least two people and forced more than 80,000 to evacuate the area.
Other Filming Permits in Danger of Being Revoked, FilmLA Says
The fire emergency situation may result in other filming permits being revoked if the fires continue to spread in the region, according FilmLA's statement. "The LA County Fire Department has specifically instructed that all permits issued for filming in the communities of Altadena, La Crescenta, La Canada/Flintridge and Unincorporated Pasadena are withdrawn. Other permit revocations are possible," the statement said.
In addition to impacting ongoing productions, the fires have also destroyed a high school featured in multiple Hollywood films. Palisades Charter High School, the location seen in films including the 1976 horror movie classic Carrie, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis's Freaky Friday, Kirsten Dunst's Crazy/Beautiful and TV's Teen Wolf series, was engulfed in the fires. The school's students were on winter break and not at the facility, Fox News reports.
FilmLA will continue to update its website as more information about shooting permits becomes available during the ongoing crisis.
