Fire Country was removed from CBS’ schedule amid the wildfires raging across the Los Angeles area.
Deadline reported that a rerun of the series — which is set in Northern California — was scheduled to air on Friday, January 10, at 8 p.m. However, out of sensitivity to the tens of thousands of people affected by the Southern California wildfires, Fire Country was pulled from the schedule and instead replaced by a rerun of NCIS: Sydney.
Now, CBS’ lineup for January 10 will include two episodes of NCIS: Sydney on 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. followed by a rerun of S.W.A.T. at 10 p.m. Chicago Fire, another firefighter-centric primetime show, aired as usual during its regular time slot at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8.
Fire Country, which went on hiatus on December 13, 2024, is scheduled to return to CBS with the second half of its third season on January 31, 2025. The series, which is set in the fictional Northern California town of Edgewater, follows Bode Donovan, a young convict who volunteers for the California Conservation Camp Program, an initiative in which prisoners assist the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (also known as Cal Fire) to put out wildfires plaguing the region.
Though Fire Country, which films in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, hasn’t halted production, filming has stopped for other primetime shows, such as Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and Suits: LA, that shoot in the Los Angeles area. After the news of the wildfires, Diane Farr, who plays Sharon Leone on Fire Country, confirmed in an Instagram post that she was safe and in Vancouver filming but that her home in Los Angeles was evacuated out of safety.
“Thank you for all the notes. Having a hard time answering and watching the news for info so here goes .. I am away filming but my house evacuated last night. My partner and friend staying with us are safe. Two kids are very far and safe, my son is in pasadena with his father,” she captioned a series of photos of her neighborhood covered in smoke. “My next door neighbor took this from our street last night when the evac came in. Second photo is from the 2 freeway as they fled. The streets are full in only one direction as they and everyone around our area head out. People drag Los Angeles all the time. In truth it’s full of families trying to make a life like everywhere else. And if these folks have moved to safety their homes are all on the line now. Along with mine.. Many of which are already gone.”
She continued, “Pray for the firefighters running toward our homes as we have the privilege to leave. 12 hours in, we have zero containment. With 100 mph winds. Pray for the deputies, the sheriffs and the police wrangling people and animals. Begging them to be safe. They have an unimaginable job today. The words in this picture are from my friend that I moved to our small town with. When our boys were babies. To start in public school together. A decade later her son was one of the drivers taking their family to safety last night. Her words feel prescient. This is gonna be a beast Share your grace.”
While Fire Country is set in Northern California, a spinoff in Southern California following SoCal firefighter Camden Casey (played by Jared Padalecki) is also in the works. Casey was introduced in a multi-episode guest role in Fire Country Season 3.
Fire Country is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
