Warning! SPOILERS about Fire Country season 3, episode 7 ahead.
Sharon and Manny’s agreement about Gabriela seemed close to failing in Fire Country season 3, episode 7, and the challenges encountered by Sharon showed why that was the case. Throughout Fire Country, Manny and Sharon have been there for each other, to look out for one another’s kids but also as friends. Indeed, Sharon was the first in line to help Vince support Manny with the judge in season 3, and even before, Manny was one of the few to know about Sharon’s illness, just like Sharon knew about his gambling and helped Manny get back up on his feet.
Manny’s absence unfortunately coincided with one of Gabriela’s most challenging times, busy as she worked overtime to repay Diego’s family for the wedding costs. Her struggles made it natural for Manny to ask Sharon for help watching over Gabriela, as it meant she could finally repay him for how much he supported Bode when he was at Three Rock and Manny was his captain. However, Fire Country season 3 highlighted how much Bode and Gabriela differed when receiving support, with Gabriela entirely refusing it, even if they were both hesitant at first, unused as they were to rely on others.
Sharon & Gabriela's Lack Of Relationship In Fire Country Makes Manny's Pact Ineffective
Bode Relied On Manny In Fire Country Season 1 Unlike Gabriela
Bode’s success on his Fire Country season 3 firefighting journey speaks of Manny’s abilities to support him when he needed him the most in season 1. Without Manny’s guidance, Bode wouldn’t have had the firefighting expertise that got him to graduate the Cal Fire program, and he would have also left Edgewater
Manny asking Sharon to return the favor by looking out for Gabriela made perfect sense in Fire Country season 3, but their pact could have never worked because of a key difference in the relationship between Sharon and Gabriela compared to that between Manny and Bode. Besides Bode, Sharon and Gabriela had little in common. While Sharon coached Gabriela after she joined Station 42, they never had a personal relationship, making it impossible for Gabriela to rely on her, especially as she was always so self-reliant. Bode instead looked up to Manny, making it easier for Manny to support him.
Gabriela Being Alone Makes Her Fire Country Season 3 Crisis Worse
Gabriela Isolating Herself Follows Manny’s Path in Fire Country Season 1
Sharon tried so hard to help Gabriela, but nothing seemed to work in Fire Country season 3, episode 7. From benching her to being worried about her after Casey told her and Vince that they drank together a lot, Sharon didn’t know how to make Gabriela trust her. This wasn’t made better by Sharon searching Gabriela’s lodgings for clues and Gabriela finding her. In addition, Fire Country season 3, episode 7 also had Gabriela admit how she drank to numb her feelings and performed risky dives in the ocean just to feel something, highlighting how bad her crisis had gotten.
Gabriela’s refusal to rely on her loved ones or open up to someone exacerbates her isolation, mirroring Manny’s downfall in Fire Country season 1 when he too worked overtime to pay for his debts. However, Manny asked Vince for help, making Gabriela’s crisis potentially more serious because she doesn’t allow anyone in to share her burden. Hopefully, despite Sharon and Gabriela’s disconnection, Sharon meant her words about Gabriela not succeeding in pushing her away, letting Fire Country season 3 deliver a positive ending to Gabriela’s crisis at last.
