Fire Country Showrunner Hints At Bode’s Potential New Romance In Season 4

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Fire Country season 4, episode 9!Fire Country showrunner Tia Napolitano has hinted at Bode's potential new romance in season 4, and what it means for his future. During season 4, sparks appear to be flying between Bode (Max Thieriot) and Fire Country cast newcomer Chloe (Alona Tal), an old friend who he's reconnected with. The pair previously portrayed husband and wife on S.E.A.L. Team.

Speaking with Collider, Napolitano explained just how close a romance Bode and Chloe might have as Fire Country season 4 progresses. Describing how lucky they were to have snagged Tal for the role, the showrunner said the pair had feelings for each other neither acted upon. She also explained how Tal got cast as Chloe:

We started thinking about this teacher that Bode knew from his past, before all the bad stuff happened, and then knew of him when the bad stuff happened. They have this fondness for each other and this crush that neither of them were ever able to act on because of opportunity.

Max just went, ‘Wait a minute, what if Alona could do it? Will they even let us do that?’ And it turns out, not only would they let us do it, CBS was so excited about it. Alona was so excited about it. It was so wonderful having her on set. She said that acting with Max again was like riding a bike. They’re lovely together, and I’m really enjoying them.

When it comes to their future interactions together, Napolitano says the pair are going to clearly have feelings between them, something that they may or may not reciprocate with one another. However, it may also put them in danger due to Landon, Chloe's boyfriend, who it was recently revealed was abusing Tyler, her son:

The way that you’ll see them together feels very easy. It feels like people who knew each other in a past life because they sort of did. In our storytelling, they knew each other as kids, which brings a certain sweetness and a certain amount of wish fulfillment. What if your crush walked into your life now and you both happened to be available? What would happen? We’re leaning into the innocence and magic and ease that exists between those two people.

There’s definitely an element of risk when it comes to Bode and Chloe. They’ll have to weigh their decisions very carefully because there is Tyler in the mix.

Fire Country season 4 recently offered some emotionally devastating revelations, the biggest one being that Landon was the man responsible for the Zabel Ridge fire, which killed Bode's father, Vince, at the end of season 3. While he's broken up with Chloe by the end of season 4, episode 9, he'll be in law enforcement's sights for his arson attack.

When Landon's finally out of the picture, it will offer an opportunity for Bode and Chloe to deepen their relationship with each other. The two episodes she's appeared in have already signified Bode would be a good father figure for Tyler, though it's unclear if the transition would be smooth or rocky for the young boy.

Even so, Napolitano's statement signals there's going to be some level of romantic connection between the two, even if neither of them are quite sure how it's going to work. It seems as though Fire Country season 3's ending revelations can bring them closer together, though it remains uncertain what Landon's next move is going to be.

Either way, it sounds like love is in bloom for Fire Country season 4's old friends, even if it will be slow-going at first. Bode and Chloe have already demonstrated how much chemistry they share, a factor that will likely grow stronger as they bond over the harm Landon's caused both of them. Perhaps love is in Bode's future after all.

Fire Country season 4 returns to CBS in 2026.
