Max Thieriot's forgotten horror film that saw him starring alongside Jennifer Lawrence will soon have a new streaming home. House at the End of the Street will be available on Max starting Jan. 1, 2025.
The 2012 psychological thriller film starred Jennifer Lawrence as Elissa, a young girl who moves with her newly divorced mother to a new neighborhood where the house at the end of the street was the location of a double homicide. Elissa soon meets up with the murderer's older brother, Ryan (played by Thieriot) and finds herself learning more about the mysterious events that unfolded at the house.
Despite being profitable at the box office, House at the End of the Street was panned by critics and audiences. The film pulled in $44.1 million against an estimated budget of $6.9-$10 million, but maintains a mere 10% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with only 41% of audiences enjoying the film, too. The critics' consensus calls the film poorly conceived and clumsily executed, leading to the film not being able to live up to the star power of its leading actors.
House at the End of the Street's lukewarm audience reception came while Lawrence's career was on a meteoric rise. Lawrence starred in other films released in 2012 that were incredibly successful, with both The Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook being released in 2012, too. As for Thieriot, House at the End of the Street remains one of the last film roles he has pursued at this time, with 2015's Point Break being the only film he starred in after its release at the time of writing.
Thieriot Found Success in TV Series Like Fire Country
Following the disappointing runs of both House at the End of the Street and Point Break, Thieriot turned to starring in television series rather than films. He had a main role in Bates Motel as Dylan Massett, Noram Bates' estranged half-brother from 2013-17, and went on to have main roles in SEAL Team (2017-2022) and Fire Country (2022-present). In addition to his leading role as Bode Donovan in Fire Country, Thieriot also serves as creator and executive producer of the series.
Fire Country airs on CBS and is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS Studios. The series tells the story of Bode Donovan, a young convict who tries to redeem himself and get his sentence shortened by volunteering for the California Conservation Camp Program. When he is assigned to help out in his hometown, he works with former friends and other prison inmates alongside firefighters to put out devastating fires in the region. Thieriot is joined by Kevin Alejandro, Jordan Calloway, Stephanie Arcila, Jules Latimer, Diane Farr and Billy Burke in the series. The third season of Fire Country began airing Oct. 18, 2024.
