Warning: Spoilers ahead for season two of Gen V.
The highly anticipated return of Gen V comes with both excitement and heartbreak. Season two of the Boys spinoff, which debuted on Prime Video with three episodes, directly addresses the absence of Chance Perdomo, the actor behind fan-favorite Andre Anderson, who tragically died in March 2024 following a motorcycle accident at just 27 years old.
The season begins with a poignant tribute, opening with a simple but powerful title card: “For Chance.” From there, the story picks up a few months after the shocking events of the season one finale, when Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair), Emma Meyer (Lizze Broadway), Jordan Li (London Thor and Derek Luh), and Andre were wrongly blamed for the Godolkin University massacre and locked away by Vought.
But in the reworked storyline, viewers quickly learn that Andre never made it out. His death, which happens off-screen, serves as a heartbreaking undercurrent for the new season. As Jordan explains in the premiere, Andre died while desperately trying to free himself, Emma, and Jordan from the Elmira Adult Rehabilitation Center after Marie had already managed to escape.
Andre attempted to manipulate a metal maintenance pipe with his magnetic powers, but the plan was thwarted when someone sealed it with brick. Refusing to give up, he turned to a steel door, straining himself far beyond his limits. “They begged Andre to stop,” the episode reveals, but he was stubborn, and the effort caused him to suffer a fatal stroke.
His death is further complicated by his declining health, inherited from his father, Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas). Like Polarity, Andre experienced migraines and worsening neural micro-tears each time he used his abilities. Polarity blames himself for pushing his son deeper into the Vought machine, drowning his guilt in alcohol while avoiding God U’s suspicious new dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater).
The loss of Andre is felt deeply by everyone who knew him. “He thought I was worthy and that I could help people and I could be a hero,” Emma reflects in episode one, admitting how profoundly Andre impacted her self-confidence despite their short time together.
Back in May, producers confirmed they would not recast Andre, writing: “Because no one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our Season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.”
