January 31 Will Be a Sad Day for NCIS Fans

NCIS' return Down Under has just been delayed. CBS has just pushed back the Season 2 premiere date for the Australian-set spinoff NCIS: Sydney.

According to TVLine, CBS has postponed the NCIS: Sydney season opener by a week, moving the episode from Jan. 31 to Feb. 7. The delay is to free up a slot on Jan. 31 so that CBS can air a soon-to-be-announced special. In the Season 2 opener, "Heart Starter," a rogue assassin is on the run, and the NCIS/AFP team will do whatever it takes to crack the case, "even if that means waking the dead…," reads the episode logline. The Season 2 premiere also will be available live and on-demand on Paramount+ for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs.

Created by Morgan O'Neill, NCIS: Sydney premiered in November 2023 on Paramount+ in Australia as the first spinoff in the military action series to be set outside the United States. Sydney follows a joint task force that involves Naval Criminal Investigate Services (NCIS) agents and Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers working together on investigations involving American military personnel. The team came together at the end of the series premiere, "Gone Fission," which focused on a seaman on a U.S. sub parked in Sydney Harbour collapsing and tumbling into the water, dead.

Who Stars in NCIS: Sydney?

NCIS: Syndey stars Legends of Tomorrow alum Olivia Swann as NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey and The Vampire Diaries alum Todd Lasance as Australian Federal Police Sergeant Jim "JD" Dempsey. The main cast for the show also includes Sean Sagar (Guy Ritchie's The Covenant) as NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson, Tuuli Narkle (Mystery Road: Origin) as AFP Liaison Officer Constable Evie Cooper, Mavournee Hazel (Neighbours) as AFP forensic scientist Bluebird "Blue" Gleeson, and William McInnes (Total Control) as AFP forensic pathologist Roy "Rosie" Penrose.

NCIS: Sydney is one of three currently airing NCIS series on CBS, joining the original NCIS and the prequel NCIS: Origins. However, they will soon be joined by a fourth series, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which will focus on Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo's fan-favorite NCIS characters, Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, respectively. The upcoming series, per the official plot synopsis, "picks up after Ziva’s supposed death when Tony left the NCIS team to go raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was discovered alive, leading her to complete one final mission with NCIS before she was reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris. Since then—and where we find them in NCIS: Tony & Ziva — Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together. When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after."

NCIS: Sydney Season 2 premieres on CBS on Feb. 7.
