Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox have been close friends since they first stepped onto the set of Friends in 1994. That 30-year friendship means they’ve weathered many of life’s ups and downs together, including romance, marriage, and divorce. However, there may be one issue this dynamic duo disagrees on, and it could be the sticking point in their best friend status.
Cox, who has been dating Snow Patrol singer Johnny McDaid for over a decade, still doesn’t live in the same country as her boyfriend — and Aniston reportedly has a problem with that, according to OK! magazine. “Jennifer is always wary of Johnny,” their source said. “She found it strange that Johnny didn’t move to L.A. full-time to live with Courteney and determined to live in London.” Aniston clearly believes that “the whole long road after all these years is a red flag.”
Possible friction in Aniston and Cox’s relationship over McDaid surfaced just weeks after the 59-year-old Cougar Town actress revealed that the musician ended his participation in therapy in 2015. It happened “within the first minute” of their session, and she was blindsided by his revelation. “And I said ‘What?’ And we got engaged. And I was shocked, I was hurt, I also don’t like surprises,” Cox told Minnie Driver on her Minnie Questions podcast. “And he’s an incredible human being, so he doesn’t try to be surprising. He was very miserable in this relationship.”
Cox took some time to work on “reclaiming my voice, my boundaries, what my motivation in life is.” She also doesn’t hold a grudge because “I’m so grateful that Johnny was so bold and brave because it changed my life and I’m sure with him.” The couple did not get engaged again but still maintained their boyfriend-girlfriend status after reconciling. However, that could be another reason why Aniston is keeping an eye on McDaid — she saw how much pain Cox was in after their initial breakup.
“She’s always been polite to him, but she thinks he should thank his lucky stars that he landed Courteney,” the insider added to OK! Let’s hope McDaid treats Cox like a queen because we’re all watching the boyfriend right now.
