Colombian singer and songwriter Shakira recently made headlines after she spoke against the Margot Robbie-led Barbie, criticizing the film for some of its humor and themes. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film went on to gross $1.44 billion at the global box office and received eight Academy Award nominations.

In early April 2024, Shakira was interviewed for the cover of an issue of Allure magazine. During the interview, Shakira discussed the topic of feminism and also spoke about how it was handled in the 2023 film Barbie, starring and produced by Margot Robbie.
“My sons absolutely hated it. They felt that it was emasculating. I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide.”
Shakira made the above statement during the interview, criticizing Barbie‘s handling of feminism and patriarchy as its primary themes. As a result, Shakira’s comments have reportedly sparked a furious reaction from Robbie, with the actress allegedly being unhappy with the singer.

According to a report from National Enquirer, Robbie is allegedly furious over the remarks Shakira made against her film. An insider close to the actress spoke with the tabloid and stated the following about Robbie’s reaction to Shakira’s criticism (via Radar Online):
“Margot doesn’t appreciate the nasty things Shakira said about the film. She worked very hard on it and is proud of all the attention it received. Margot can try to cast it aside as jealousy, but it still stings.”
The insider also claimed that Robbie and Shakira have common friends and the actress has warned them that she does not want to run into the Hips Don’t Lie hitmaker. Robbie is allegedly prepared to give Shakira a piece of her mind if the two ever come face to face. The aforementioned insider also claimed that Shakira was reportedly not a fan of the actress.
“Shakira is not a fan of Margot and thinks she’s totally overrated. She just doesn’t get the hype and hasn’t been shy about telling people. Obviously, the movie touched a real nerve!”
