Pulse, the new medical drama from Netflix, has dropped its official trailer, promising a show that will become an “obsession” for viewers.
The show, which has been likened to Grey’s Anatomy, will tell stories of emergencies, hospital lockdowns and even workplace romance as the workers of a Miami-based trauma centre attempt to balance both their professional and personal lives.
Ahead of the launch on April 3, Netflix has now unveiled the first trailer, with the clip showing the employees of the trauma centre reeling following the suspension of their boss. As the search for a replacement begins, they’ll also have to contain the elements.
“As a hurricane barrels toward Miami’s busiest Level 1 trauma centre, third-year resident Dr Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) is unexpectedly pressed into a promotion when Chief Resident Dr Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended,” reads the synopsis.
“Amid the worsening storm and an onslaught of critical cases, the hospital goes into lockdown, and Danny and Phillips must find a way to work together while navigating their romantic connection. For this tight-knit group of doctors, saving their patients’ lives is often less complicated than living their own.”
In addition to Fitzgerald and Woodell, the cast for Pulse includes Justina Machado, Jack Bannon, Jessie T Usher and Daniela Nieves, with Zoe Robyn and Carlton Cuse serving as co-showrunners.
“You don’t really want to be in the hospital. But if you were in the hospital – this is the one you would want to be in. You want to be in the care of these people” said Robyn of the series (via Tudum), before discussing the central romance between Danny and Xander.
“We always endeavoured to make [their] relationship an authentic look at a workplace romance. We really wanted to play in the gray area of that situation. Pulse shows the edges and pitfalls of their relationship – but also all the joyous moments of working a high-pressure job like this.”
