Netflix's next medical drama introduces audiences to a harrowing new procedural with a Pulse-pounding first trailer.
Netflix released the first full trailer for the hotly-anticipated medical procedural drama Pulse to its official YouTube channel on March 6. The trailer gives fans a look at the core cast of characters in Pulse, as well as the ever-increasing stakes they will face as they race against time to save lives inside the Level 1 Trauma Center of one of Miami's busiest hospitals.
Created by Zoe Robyn, who serves as showrunner alongside Carlton Cuse, Pulse stars Willa Fitzgerald as Danielle "Danny" Simms, a third year resident in Emergency Medicine at Miami's Maguire Hospital. The series also stars an ensemble cast including Colin Woodell as Chief Resident Xander Phillips, Justina Machado as Chair of Surgery Natalie Cruz, Jack Bannon as Surgical Resident Tom Cole, Jessie T. Usher as third-year Emergency Medicine Resident Sam Elija, and Jessy Yates as second-year Emergency Medicine Resident and younger sister of Fitzgerald's Danny, Harper Simms. Pulse is set to follow its core cast as they deal with high-risk medical situations, interpersonal drama, and wildly unexpected disasters of both the natural and man-made variety, much in the same vein as past medical procedurals such as Grey's Anatomy.
Pulse star Jessie T. Usher, best known for portraying A-Train on Prime Video's The Boys, previously noted this similarity for himself, noting that the series "has the feel of early Grey's Anatomy." Though Usher stated at the time that he could not divulge any plot points or story details for Pulse, he described the series as "sexy" and "romantic."
Pulse Is Dramatic in a Lot of Ways
Usher added, "It's dramatic in a lot of ways. It was one heck of an experience… It's the polar opposites from The Boys, so that was nice. I didn't realize how dark and twisted my film making mind had been until I got over to a show where we're saving people instead of killing them. So, it's just nice to flip the switch. Yeah, it's a nice break. 'Well, we're saving lives instead of taking them. Thank god. Okay, I forgot people still do that on TV.'"
In February, Robyn discussed the relationship between Fitzgerald's Danny and Woodall's Phillips in Pulse, stating that the creators "Always endeavored to make Danny and Phillips' relationship a real, authentic look at a workplace romance." Robyn explained, "We really wanted to play in the gray area of that situation. Pulse shows the edges and pitfalls of their relationship — but also all the joyous moments of working a high-pressure job like this… We wanted these characters to be real people who have to go through the relatable issues of working together in a pressure cooker. Relationships are forming and breaking apart on Pulse."
Pulse is currently slate to premiere on Netflix on April 3.
