Scarlett Johansson confirms her role in new Jurassic World movie and reveals she’s an ‘enormous fan’ of the blockbuster dinosaur franchise

Almost exactly one month after Scarlett Johansson's casting was announced, the actress opened up about her new Jurassic World movie.

The 39-year-old actress signed on to the untitled film back in late May, with Universal Pictures putting it on the fast-track, setting a July 2, 2025 release date.

Filming got under way earlier this month, though it's unclear if Johansson has stepped in front of cameras yet, with filming expected to last until October.

While promoting her new film Fly Me To the Moon, Johansson confirmed her casting to ComicBook.com and offered her first comments.

'I'm an enormous Jurassic Park fan. It's one of the first films I remember seeing in the theater. I remember seeing it so vividly,' she said of the original 1993 Jurassic Park.

'It was like life-changing. It was mind-blowing. I cannot express how excited I am,' Johansson recalled.

The project brings back original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, who adapted Michael Crichton's 1990 novel of the same name.

'The script is so incredible. David Koepp wrote it. He returned after like 30 years to write the script. He's so passionate about it, which is so awesome."

'I'm such an enormous fan of the franchise and huge nerd for it. I'm just like, I can't even, I'm pinching myself," Johansson added.

She also admitted, 'I've been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over 10 years.'

'I'm like, "I'll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I'll do the craft service!" Johansson joked.

'I'll do anything for it. The fact that it's happened in this way at this time just is actually unbelievable. I can't believe it,' she admitted.

Production is currently under way in Thailand, with filming also slated to take place in Malta and London.

Gareth Edwards is directing the film from Koepp's script, with the cast starting to come together in the last few weeks.

Johansson will be joined by Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, David Iacono and Luna Blaise set to star.

Edwards revealed that he was originally planning on taking a break to start writing what would have been his next film when this project came along.

'I was about to take a break and I started writing my next idea for a film and this is the only movie that would make me drop everything like a stone and dive right in,' Edwards said in an interview with Collider.

'I love Jurassic Park. I think the first movie is a cinematic masterpiece…so this opportunity is like a dream to me,' he added.

'And to work with (producer) Frank Marshall and Universal and David Koepp, who's writing the script, I think they're all legends. So I'm just very excited,' he added.
