Set in the late 32nd century post-Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy centers on the first class of cadets to return to San Francisco on Earth in 120 years. Starfleet Academy's young heroes inherit a future where the United Federation of Planets is rebuilding after The Burn, but faces a new threat in half-Klingon/half-Tellarite hybrid Nus Braka (Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti).
Representing Star Trek's diverse future, Starfleet Academy's new class is a mix of classic Star Trek species and alien races audiences will meet for the first time. Each Starfleet Academy cadet brings unique talents and motivations, driving them to become the best of the best and take their place among Starfleet's greatest heroes.

Meet Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’s Cadets
Star Trek's official Instagram account shared new video introductions to Star Trek: Starfleet Academy cadets. Featuring character soundbytes and new clips from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, the vignettes are a tidy breakdown of each new character and offer a taste of their personalities.
Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta) is a human who was separated from his mother (Tatiana Maslany) as a child. Caleb is recruited into Starfleet Academy with the promise of finding his mother, but the lifelong rebel has to find a way to fit in and conform to a life in Starfleet.
Jay-Den Kraag (Karim Diané) is a Klingon who joins Starfleet Academy with an interest in Sciences and Medicine, which is a unique track for a member of the warrior race. Jay-Den is the first full Klingon to be a main character in a Star Trek series since Worf (Michael Dorn).
SAM (Series Acclimation Mil) (Kerrice Brooks) is the first Kasquian in Starfleet. SAM is a holographic lifeform who was programmed as a teenage girl, and she has to fit in and learn about her organic classmates.
Darem Reymi (George Hawkins) is the first Khionian in Starfleet Academy. Hailing from a wealthy family, Darem is driven towards achievement and excellence, with plans to become a Captain to impress his parents.
Genesis Lythe (Bella Shepard) is the first Dar-Sha in Starfleet Academy. The daughter of an Admiral, Genesis single-mindedly pursues a career track to become a starship Captain.
Tarima Sadal (Zoë Steiner) is the daughter of the President of Betazed with psychic powers that she may not be able to fully control. Curiously, Tarima does not appear to be enrolled as a cadet in Starfleet Academy, although she shares a love story with Caleb Mir.
Starfleet Academy Has New & Returning Adult Star Trek Characters
Making sure that the kids are all right in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy are the 'adults in the room' who are the cadets' instructors and mentors. Chief among them is Captain Nahla Ake (Academy Award-winner Holly Hunter). The Chancellor of Starfleet Academy, Captain Ake's wisdom comes from being a 420-year-old half-Lanthanite.
Starfleet Academy's Cadet Master is Commander Lura Thok (Gina Yashere). The half-Klingon/half-Jem'Hadar is a tough drill sergeant keeping the cadets in line. Commander Thok is also Captain Ake's Number One as the First Officer of the USS Athena.
Perhaps the most prominent Star Trek legacy character in Starfleet Academy is The Doctor (Robert Picardo), who is the same Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH) from Star Trek: Voyager. Along with being a Starfleet Academy instructor, the 800-year-old EMH is also Chief Medical Officer of the USS Athena.
From Star Trek: Discovery, Commander Jett Reno (Tig Notaro) and Lieutenant Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) are instructors at Starfleet Academy. In addition, Admiral Charles Vance (Oded Fehr) oversees Captain Ake and the progress of Starfleet Academy on behalf of the Federation.
The USS Athena also doubles as Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's campus when the starship docks in San Francisco. Among the USS Athena's bridge crew is a Starfleet Officer played by Rebecca Quin, better known as WWE Superstar Becky Lynch.
