Transformers One is finally exploring Cybertron’s untold history, giving fans the origin story they’ve craved for years on the big screen. Before Cybertron actually descended into chaos, the film explores the friendship-turned-rivalry of Optimus Prime and Megatron, revealing how they shaped the planet’s fate.
Director Josh Cooley flips the script on Megatron, typically seen as the big bad obsessed with power. In Transformers One, he digs deeper beyond the good versus evil stereotype, revealing Megatron’s complicated relationship with Optimus Prime and the heartbreaking betrayal that shapes their story. In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, the director explained,
The thing that starts to drive a wedge between him and Orion Pax is that the world is not what they thought it was, and they then start to form two different views on how to solve the problem. And these two versions just naturally butt heads against each other.
They’re really trying not to get pulled apart, and that’s where the friction comes in during the second part of the movie where things get real and scary choices are made that really will affect everything.
