The wild and unpredictable Big Brother 26 three-nominee twist will most likely return for Big Brother 27. During the Big Brother 26 pre-jury part of the game, the houseguests were subjected to a new twist: the BB A.I. Arena. The twist required the Head of Household (HOH) to nominate three players for eviction instead of the usual two. After the Power of Veto competition and ceremony, the three houseguests who remained on the chopping block battled it out live for safety, just moments before the live eviction votes were cast.
In an interview with EW, Big Brother executive producer Allison Grodner shared that the three-nominee twist will most likely return for Big Brother 27, although the A.I. theme will be different. She explained, "I think the A.I. arena was a big success, and we've learned a lot from it. I think it's something that as we look towards the summer, nothing's ever going to be exactly the same. We love mixing things up. But I think the essence of that, it's very likely to be carried forward."
Allison shared that the BB A.I. Arena twist was created because, in recent seasons, there were no longer any competitions during the Thursday live eviction episodes. She explained, "The Head of Household competition had quite a few times moved out of that episode. So we really felt like we needed to service the live eviction episode and amp it up, and I think we did."
Executive producer Rich Meehan added, "Creatively, [what] we really wanted to try was to make the live episode more unpredictable and make it more exciting and entertaining. We felt like it kind of got into a little bit of a pattern over the last few years where there was a lot of unanimous votes."
Rich explained that the BB A.I. Arena "made the live show more unpredictable. It created kind of a must-see event of what's going to happen, and hopefully it was part of the reason why we didn't have one-sided votes. The live show was more dramatic. From a viewer’s perspective, you never know what's going to happen, which is really the goal." Allison added that Kaitlyn Herman's puzzle failure in Big Brother 20 and Big Brother Reindeer games, in which every challenge had such high stakes, were the inspiration for the BB A.I. Arena.

This made for some very boring live feeds, especially during the early weeks of the game, when the houseguests primarily voted out contestants unanimously to avoid making themselves targets.
However, due to the three-nominee twist and the BB A.I. Arena, Big Brother 26 was unpredictable. It was thrilling to watch the houseguests battle for safety live during the Thursday episodes. The HOH and Power of Veto competition winners are spoiled by the live feeds, but the BB A.I. Arena being played lived prevented that from happening. The three-nominee twist also stopped houseguests from backdooring each other, without giving each other a chance to play for safety. This made the game much more challenging for the houseguests, but so much more entertaining for viewers.

The game had become predictable, and sometimes even tedious to watch, especially after Big Brother 25's 100-day season. However, the three-nominee twist breathed new life into the game, and revitalized it. The Thursday live eviction episodes were now must-see TV, as the houseguests went head-to-head-to-head in the BB A.I. Arena. It might be even more exciting if the twist lasted beyond the pre-jury phase of the game. It's fantastic to hear that this twist will most likely return for Big Brother 27.
