It’s officially the end of an era. Host of the hit MTV series Catfish Nev Shulman and former co-host Max Joseph shared some shocking news to fans yesterday.

“After 12 years, 300 episodes and a lot of traveling around this incredible country, Catfish has officially been cancelled. Sorry,” Nev announced in a Sept. 22 Instagram video while sitting beside Max.

Max chimed in with a bit of optimism, teasing, “Maybe it’s just on pause.” He then turned to Nev and added, “First, congrats on over a decade on cable television in this day and age. I mean, this was it — this was the last decade in cable television. And you did it.”

The 43-year-old went on to reflect on the fans who have kept the show alive: “You guys have been awesome, and you made the show worth continuing. Even though I left, people still come up to me and tell me how much they love watching it.”

“Parents say they watch it with their kids, kids say they watch it with their parents. It became this family event,” he continued. “It’s been heartwarming to hear what the show has meant to you.”

The host of Catfish also took a moment to thank Kamie Crawford in the comments of the now-viral Instagram post, writing, “And a HUGE thank you to Kamie too, of course!” Crawford joined the show after Max left in 2018, co-hosting alongside Nev from 2019 to 2024.

Schulman also thanked fans for sharing their personal stories with him. “That’s what the show was — it was you guys, and hopefully us being helpful. Thank you for being part of this, for turning what started as an idea and a documentary into a global conversation about curiosity and compassion, and for setting a higher standard for how we treat others and ourselves.”

The host then signed off with a final piece of advice which was an obvious nod to one of the show’s most memorable quotes. “If we leave you with one thing, it’s this: no matter what happens in your life, how someone treats you, or how angry or upset you are… never call someone a fat a** Kelly Price.”

Fans quickly filled the comments with love and heartbreak. One wrote, “This is the worst possible news I could have received today.”

Another added, “💔 I’ve been watching since day one. Thank you for the hard work everyone has put into the show. It taught me a lot, and I will forever be grateful for all the lessons. You will be truly missed.”
