Why Isn’t ‘Fire Country’ On Tonight?

Fire Country is on ice this week. There will be no new episode of the CBS firefighter drama on Friday, March 21.

Fire Country will be off for the next two weeks – March 21 and March 28 — due to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, which is disrupting CBS’s regularly scheduled programming until the national championship game on April 7.

Two first-round games will air during Fire Country’s usual Friday at 9/8c time slot this week. The third-seeded Kentucky Wildcats, who are eight-time NCAA champions, are going up against the 14th-ranked Troy Trojans, who are making only their third tournament appearance ever, at 7:10 p.m. ET. After the conclusion of that matchup, the No. 6 Illinois Fighting Illini will take on the No. 11 Xavier Musketeers at 9:45 p.m. ET.

Fire Country will return on April 4 with the 16th episode of Season 3, which will be an important one. Titled “Dirty Money” and guest-starring Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox and W. Earl Brown as Wes Fox, the episode will set up the spinoff Sheriff Country. In the episode, firefighter Bode Leone (Max Thieriot) and his aunt Mickey investigate the attempted murder of her father Wes, who runs an illegal marijuana business. The episode is written by Fire Country co-creators Joan Rater and Tony Phelan and directed by James Strong.

The most recent episode, “One Last Time,” found firefighters Eve Edwards (Jules Latimer) and Sharon Leone (Diane Farr) uncovering a conspiracy that will unravel over the course of the season’s remaining episodes. Residents of the Three Rock Conservation Camp are getting sick, and one of them even died, due to the camp’s water well being contaminated by chemical company Oxalta, and the company is trying to cover it up. The firefighters are facing a formidable adversary, but if there’s one thing we know about the firefighters of Station 42, it’s that they’re not afraid of a fight.

Fire Country tells the story of Bode, a convicted felon-turned-firefighter, as he seeks redemption and recreates with his family and friends in his Northern California hometown. It was created by Rater, Phelan, and Thieriot. Tia Napolitano is the showrunner. According to CBS, it averages 10.6 million viewers per episode across broadcast and streaming. CBS has already renewed the series for Season 4, which will premiere alongside Sheriff Country this fall. The two-hour Season 3 finale premieres on April 25.

Fire Country returns Friday, April 4 at 9/8c on CBS. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Paramount+.
