The wait is over! A brand new trailer for Wicked: For Good—the second installment of Jon M. Chu’s film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical—dropped Wednesday morning, September 24, giving fans a deeper look into the magical world of Oz.

The highly anticipated second part will hit theaters on November 21, and this three-minute trailer has already sent fans into a frenzy. “How lucky we are to be alive right now,” one fan wrote, while another admitted, “Ok great, got my first cry of the day in early today.”

As per the official synopsis, picking up where Wicked left off, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), is now “demonized as The Wicked Witch of the West”, and lives her life in hiding while continuing to “fight for the freedom of Oz’s silenced animals”.

Glinda (Ariana Grande) on the other hand, “has become the glamorous symbol of Goodness for all of Oz, living at the palace in Emerald City and reveling in the perks of fame and popularity,” the synopsis says. Eventually, the old friends “will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good.”

The goosebump-inducing trailer also teases two of the most iconic songs from the Wicked score. Fans can hear Grande and Erivo performing the emotional ballad “For Good,” as well as Elphaba’s powerhouse number “No Good Deed.”

Back in April 2022, director Jon M. Chu revealed in a reel that Wicked would be split into two films instead of just one.

“As we prepared the production over the last year, it became impossible to wrestle the story of ‘Wicked’ into a single film without doing some real damage to it. As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years,” Chu explained.

“We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one ‘Wicked’ movie but two! With more space, we can tell the story of Wicked as it was meant to be told, while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters,” he continued.

The trailer also offers glimpses of some of the most beloved characters from The Wizard of Oz. Fans can spot the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, and even Dorothy Gale herself—complete with her iconic ruby red slippers.
